Eric Halsall (18 March 1920 – 21 October 1996) was an English countryman, author and television presenter. Best known for his fourteen-year run as a commentator on BBC TV series ''One Man and His Dog''. ==Early life== Halsall was born and brought up in Burnley, Lancashire, attending Burnley Grammar School.〔The Author's & writer's who's who (Snippet at Google Books ) Accessed 2010〕 He was a keen footballer and had a trial at Burnley F.C.. Turned down by the RAF, he joined the Burnley Express, initially in advertising and then as a writer. He married Rita Greenwood in 1942.
